  • Payments are due on January 31st, without penalty.
  • Interest rates: January 0%, February 1%, March 2%, April 3%.
  • Payments should be made out to Tax Collector- Erica Hedden.
  • Please pay via check or money order. Cash is discouraged; exact change only, as change may not be available.
  • Online Payments are now accepted at our Online Tax Portal

    – MasterCard, Visa, American Express & Discover Credit Charge – 2.95% Convenience Fee
  • Only EXACT amounts are accepted. Unfortunately, a payment can not be processed if it is the wrong amount. Your payments will not be processed and returned if it is incorrect.
  • will accept one check for multiple properties if the payment is accurate. However, if it is incorrect the entire payment will be returned.
  • Multiple checks on a single property are NOT accepted, there is no way to record multiple payments for one bill in the processing program.
  • Payments received after the collection period will be returned.

Registrar of Vital Statistics

The Town Clerk is appointed Registrar of Vital Statistics for the New York State Department of Health. Registrars are NOT allowed to release any information prior to receiving an application, including whether or not a record is on file, even if the person who the record pertains to is making the request.

Who can Request a copy of a birth certificate?

•To the person named on the birth certificate, if 18 years of age or older, ID required.
•A parent of the person named on the birth certificate. The requested parent’s name must be on the birth certificate.
•A spouse, child or others, but only by order of a New York State court.
•To the lawful representative of the person named or the parents of the person named on the birth certificate (need notarized release from person entitled to birth record or provide a court document dated within 1 year. The same stands for an attorney);
•To a person with a New York State Court Order.

Who can request a copy of a marriage license?

•Spouses
•Other people who have a: documented judicial or other proper purpose; or a New York State Court Order

Who can request a copy of a death certificate?

•Spouse, parent, child or sibling of the deceased.
•Domestic partner or designated agent with documented proof.
•Lawful representative of the spouse, parent, child or sibling of the deceased.
•A person with a NYS Court Order issued on a showing of necessity.
•A person requiring the record for a documented legal right or claim.
•A person requiring the record for a documented medical need.
•A municipal, state or federal agency when needed for official purposes.

    1. Proof of Age – Original Live Birth Certificate, Certified Copy, or Certified Transcript of Birth (NOT Certificate of Record or Certificate of Registration which only states that there is a birth record on file)
    2. Social Security Cards
    3. Photo Identification – Valid Driver’s License or Passport
    4. Previous Marriages – Certified Copy of the Decree of Divorce or a Certificate of Dissolution of Marriage
    5. $40.00 fee payable to the Town of Schroon

    Dog Licenses

    According to New York State law, all dogs must be licensed at FOUR months of age; A current Rabies Certificate and proof of spay or neuter, if applicable, are required. If your dog is microchipped, please send a copy of that paperwork as well.

    The Town of Schroon does have a Leash Ordinance in place, please keep your dog leashed when on public property.

    Filing Officer for the Town : All local laws, oaths of office, affidavits of publication, resignations, petitions, annual budgets, fiscal reports, assessment rolls, bonds and other pertinent town documents are to be filed in the Town Clerk’s office.

    Issuing Agent on behalf of State Agencies : The Town Clerk issues the following licenses as an agent for New York State: Marriage, Dog, Conservation, Bingo and Games of Chance, Handicapped parking permits, burning permits.

    Issuing Agent for Town of Schroon : The Town Clerk is responsible for issuing local licenses/permits for peddlers and/or transient merchants.

    Records Management Officer : The Town Clerk is the custodian of all permanent Town records and provides for the storage, retrieval and disposition of records for all departments of the Town. The records are retained as set forth by the New York State Archives Records Retention Schedule for municipalities.

    Recording Secretary to the Town Board : The Town Clerk attends all Town Board meetings and is responsible for recording the actions of the Town Board. The minutes are the official record of the Town Board and are maintained permanently for legal and historical purposes.

    Records Access Officer : The Town Clerk is responsible for all Freedom of Information requests (FOIL). Requests must be received in writing. Fees for copies: Twenty five cents ($ .25) per copy up to 9 by 14 inches. Copies of other records may be charged based upon the actual cost of reproduction. Freedom of Information does not apply to court records. Other services: . A Notary Public is available at the Town Clerk’s office.
