  Phone: (518) 532-9813 Town of Schroon Transfer Station Hours Sunday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Tuesday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Wednesday: closed Thursday: closed Friday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The transfer station is closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, President’s Day, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Election Day, Veteran’s Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas. Prices and Tickets Garbage:  $.10 per pound Tickets can be purchased for $2, $5, $10 or $20. Attendants can accept cash or checks only. No credit cards. Tickets can be purchased at the landfill during regular business hours - by cash and check - no credit cards Also exact payment by cash or check is permitted at the transfer station without purchase of ticket(s). Recyclables:  No charge. Glass, tin, plastic bottles (with a neck), aluminum, newspapers, magazines, household batteries, aerosol cans, and cardboard. Items need to be rinsed out. Flatten cardboard boxes. Seperate newspapers and magazines from junk mail and other paper. For Deposit Bottles and Cans: There is a donation box at the landfill for bottles and cans with $.05 deposit. Bottles and cans are collected by the Schroon Lake Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.  Construction & Demolition Material: $.10 per pound Miscellaneous: Electronics/TVs:  $.25 per pound Mattress/Box Spring: $.10 per pound Tires: $3.00 each Refrigerator/Freezer/Air Conditioner: $15/unit Metal Pile: No charge. DIRECTIONS TO LANDFILL The Town of Schroon Landfill is located on Alder Meadow road next to the airport. From the center of the village go north on Route 9 about 1.8 miles to Alder Meadow Road. Take a right turn.  The landfill is about half a mile further. The turnoff is just before the airport. MAP 
Zero Sort Recycling
Beginning in May 2013 the transfer station will be utilizing zero sort recycling for common recyclables. All common recyclables - EXCEPT PAPER PRODUCTS - including some not currently accepted will go into a single bin. There is no charge for these recyclables.
