Library Policies

 

I.  LIBRARY CARDS

Individuals wishing to check out materials from the Schroon Lake Public Library must have a valid library card.

Adults: A free card is issued to any resident who presents identification and proof of current address. A resident is defined as living within or owning property within the Schroon Lake School District. Examples of acceptable identification include:

  • valid driver's license

  • current checking account (show check book)

  • rental agreement

  • house or property title or copy of mortgage agreement

Children: Children are eligible for a library card when they enter kindergarten. A parent/legal guardian signature is required for children under 14 years of age.

Library cards are valid for one year from date of issue. Identification must be presented in order to update the card.

Lost/Stolen Cards: Lost or stolen cards must be reported lo the library immediately. There is a $1.00 fee for a replacement card.

II. INTER-LIBRARY LOANS

The Schroon Lake Public Library participates in the Clinton, Essex, Franklin Library System inter-library loan circuit, and in the Northern New York Library Network inter-library loan circuit. Patrons may request materials at the library, over the phone, or on-line.

III.  LOAN PERIODS AND RENEWALS

DVD's and videos may be checked out for 1 week.

All other library materials may be checked for 2 weeks.

All items may be renewed as long as there are no reserves placed on the item. Renewals may be done in person, over the phone, or on-line.

 

Inter-library loan items are renewable on a case-by-case basis. Cardholders are limited to a total of 50 items at any one time.

IV.   FINES AND FEES

Late charges are accrued on materials that are not returned on time. Rates are as
follows:                 

  • Videos and DVD's..20˘ per day that the library is open

Other materials:

  • Adult/teen……………..10 ˘ per day that the library is open 

  • Children……………..   05˘ per day that the library is open

V.  LOST OR DAMAGED ITEMS

Patrons must pay for library materials that are lost or damaged. The library director will assess damage to any item.  Items deemed to be damaged beyond repair must be paid for in full, and will then become the property of the patron.  Patrons may replace an item with a new copy  of said item with prior approval of the library director.
