  • 1972  Organization founded by Virginia Beck, Louise Hargreaves, Max Keppler, O. Paul  Leavitt and Jack Richards.

  • 1972  Granted a Provisional Charter by the New York State Historical Society (November 16)

  • 1975 The Root Homestead built by Charles Knox, purchased from Essex County to become a Museum supported by the Schroon-North Hudson Historical Society. (June 11)

  • 1976 Absolute Charter granted by University of the State of New York, State Education Department (May 28)
